About The Infrared Sauna

What Is An Infrared Sauna?

Infrared saunas, also known as far-infrared saunas, use heated panels that emit heat, very much like that of the sun, but without the harmful ultraviolet rays. An infrared sauna creates heat within the body as opposed to the surrounding air. This heat increases sweat production and helps release toxins from the body. These saunas differ from conventional saunas because they are designed so that the air around you is not warmed. Rather the light and heat of far-infrared saunas directly penetrate the skin at lower temperature settings, and may be better tolerated by individuals whom may not otherwise tolerate the higher heat of conventional saunas. Surprisingly, these lower temperature settings are more efficient at penetrating into our bodies in order to produce a deeper and more cleansing sweat.

what do i bring to the sauna and what can i expect?

Expect to sweat...a lot! Our infrared sauna is housed in a locked private room. Some guests prefer to change into and wear their bathing suits inside the sauna, but most opt to wear just a towel wrapped around themselves. The sauna is limited to one guest at a time. The sauna is equipped with an auxiliary plug and speakers. It is recommended that you bring 2 towels with you, one to wrap around yourself and the other to sit on. Also be sure to bring with you a large bottle of water to stay hydrated.

*Boston Barre does not provide towels. Should a guest forget his or her towel, use of the sauna cannot be allowed and visit will need to be rescheduled.

How Often Can I Use The Sauna?

Though there are no set guidelines for how frequently an individual can visit the infrared sauna, we think it's best to keep visits between 1-3 times per week. Not everyone can tolerate the heat of a sauna and some medical conditions may keep an individual from enjoying its potential benefits. It's advised and always best to seek the advise of your physician with any question regarding your health and the use of the infrared sauna.

*The infrared sauna may not be used immediately following any HIIT class or other high-intensity class at Boston Barre. Our knowledgeable staff and instructors may stop any guest from entering the sauna following one of these classes or any individual that appears unwell. We make safety a priority at our studio and any interference of such may result in a termination of membership.
